照屋勇賢
1973年沖縄生まれ。ベルリン在住。2001年にニューヨークのスクール・オブ・ビジュアルアーツでMFA修了。世界各地の展覧会に参加し国内外で高く評価されている。身の周りのものを素材とし、緻密で繊細な技術を用いて、大量消費社会、グローバリズムや環境問題、現代社会が直面する問題をテーマに作品制作を続けている。また、出身地沖縄をめぐる現在の複雑な状況を、鋭い洞察と繊細な造形手法によって視覚化させ、見る者に静かに問いかける。
主な展覧会に「照屋勇賢 沖縄にて、過去と未来からのコレクション」展: Dahlem Ethnological Museum / Asian Art Museum、ベルリン(2014-2015)、Okinawa Heavy Pop、沖縄県立博物館・美術館、沖縄(2023-2024)、「Paper」サーチギャラリー、ロンドン(2013年)、「Contemporary Visual Arts & Culture Since 1970」ポンピドゥー・メッツ、(2017年)、「Sea Bleez」金沢21世紀美術館(2022年)、主なパブリックコレクションに、大英博物館(ロンドン)、ニューヨーク近代美術館、グッゲンハイム美術館(ニューヨーク)、レンウィック・ギャラリー、スミソニアン・アメリカ美術館(ワシントンD.C.)、 金沢21世紀美術館など。

Yuken Teruya
Yuken Teruya was born in Okinawa in 1973, and lives in Berlin. He received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2001. He has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world, and his works are widely recognized at home and abroad. Teruya uses minutely precise techniques to create works that address issues in contemporary society, such as consumer culture, Globalization and the environment, constructed from everyday materials. With keen insight and refined skills, he visualizes the ongoing complex disputes surrounding his homeland Okinawa to quietly inspire reflection in his viewers.
His solo exhibitions include Yuken Teruya On Okinawa, Collections from the Past and the Future: Dahlem Ethnological Museum / Asian Art Museum (Humboldt Lab Dahlem), Berlin (2014-2015), and Okinawa Heavy Pop, Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, Okinawa (2023-2024). Teruya's work also featured in Paper at the Saatchi Gallery, London (2013); Japanext: Contemporary Visual Arts & Culture Since 1970, Pompidou-Metz, (2017); SEA LANE: Connecting To the Islands, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2022); The Shapes of Space at the Guggenheim, New York (2007). His work is included in the public collections of the British Museum, London; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Guggenheim, New York; The Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, among others.
